National Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month

Thursday, April 21st Saint Joseph Parenting Center recognized National Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month at the Government Center Building with local like-minded organizations.

Mayor Caroline Simmons gave a proclamation presentation, SJPC Executive Director, Rhonda Neal, shared remarks, followed by The Exchange Club Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse, Executive Director, Joe Dudek. There was then a presentation of “Time Out Teddy” teddy bears to our local first responders, concluded by remarks from Connecticut Exchange District President, Paul Greatsinger. We thank everyone for their support in shedding light on the importance of National Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month and bringing awareness to this in our local community.

April was National Child Abuse Prevention Month. 
2022 marks the 39th Anniversary of this National Awareness month.

In 1983, April was first designated as Child Abuse Prevention Month by President Ronald Reagan.
Historically, the month of April has been used to raise awareness of the problem of child abuse.
Now the month of April is used to focus instead on how communities can prevent child abuse and neglect.

To help bring awareness to our community, we displayed our SJPC Child Abuse Prevention Month banner
outside of the Stamford Government Center building from April 1st – April 30th.
